It's hot today: tempers

The drip, drip of revelations about the Bush/Cheney nightmare can become water torture at times.

I've watched a number of my blogmates at firedoglake become outraged today, as more is revealed about our abuse of Iraqi prisoners at Abu Ghraib.

Regulars making hot comments, people dredging up old spats and trying to gain points at the expense of others. The temptation, as with family violence, is to strike out at the nearest available target, someone nearby who has made you angry.

Unfortunately, that has us sniping at each other instead of focusing on the real problems.

There are guaranteed to be more revelations of scandal, corruption, incompetence, and deceit at the highest levels of government. It is our challenge to bring the temperature down and remain calm as these situations develop.

Let's stop the friendly fire. Hold your tempers. Cool it.

Angry yet?

egregious, I've missed keeping up on all sorts of things, since I'm back to actual parenting, not virtual parenting. But I treasure your voice on fdl and also the example you set of living beyond the walls of your own family. Or making the family one without walls.

Just a quick update: Daughter is graduated from college, and trying to sort her life. Son is transferring to a public school for his senior year of high school. I'm returning to NZ in a few days for one more month of teaching and a chance to be with the spouse. My husband is trying to find a job in the US so that we can all be on the same continent, but so far, not much luck. His work, environmental protection, isn't being practiced that much here yet.
Interesting times of reconciliation and reunion. I've tried to bridge the gap with an uncle who has walled himself off from many (and reason at times). Many tears, but it did feel like a crack of light. There is hope.
And keep voicing that hope on fdl. I look forward to your wisdom there.

NZexpat,

So good to hear from you. I hope you continue to be brave in your various complicated endeavors.

Extra bonus points for reaching out to an estranged family member. I've done that a couple times and it's always worth the effort even if the result is not all you hope for.

Keep me posted.
